The Department of General Surgery treats a wide variety of diseases which are classified in 1) the upper gastrointestinal(GI) diseases (stomach, small intestine), 2) the colorectal diseases, 3) the hepatobiliary diseases, 4) the breast and endocrine diseases, 5) the peripheral vascular diseases, and 6) the abdominal wall diseases (hernia, etc.). We emphasize a minimally invasive surgery and a multi-disciplinary approach with the Digestive Endoscopic Center, the Interventional Radiology, and the Cancer Center. We have two another variety of division, the pediatric surgery and transplant surgery.

Gastrointestinal Surgery
The Gastrointestinal Surgery team specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the upper GI tract. We have extensive experience in treating diseases of the stomach, especially gastric cancer, and the upper GI tract. There is a special concentration in minimally invasive(laparoscopic) surgery of the upper GI tract.

Colorectal Surgery
The Colorectal Surgery team specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the colon, the rectum, and the anus. We have extensive experience in treating the colorectal and the anal disease, especially in the colorectal cancer, the fecal incontinence, and the hemorrhoids. There is a special team in minimally invasive(laparoscopic) surgery of the colorectum.

Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery
This section provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment of diseases of the duodenum, the gallbladder, the biliary tract, the spleen and the pancreas. We have extensive experience in treating the hepatobiliary and the pancreatic diseases. There is a special team for minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery and mini (2 mm) laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The team for mini (2 mm) laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a unique in Korea.

Breast and Endocrine Surgery
Our Breast Clinic serves comprehensive managements related to breast diseases (especially breast cancer). We understand the fear of breast cancer patients, so we do our best for the fast diagnosis, perfect operation, appropriate adjuvant treatment and improved quality of life. Patients with surgical diseases of the thyroid (especially thyroid cancer), parathyroid and adrenal glands are treated by this specialized team. We manage multidisciplinary clinics not only for the primary treatment but also for the screening and early diagnosis with distinguished endocrinologists and oncologiststs. There is a special team in minimally invasive (endoscopic) surgery for disease of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.

Vascular and Transplant Surgery
The Section of Vascular Surgery provides comprehensive care for patients with peripheral arterial and venous disease. Both minimally invasive (endovascular) and open techniques are utilized for treatment of patients as appropriate. The faculty have special interest and expertise in the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, lower extremity occlusive disease, and venous disorders.
The Section of Transplant surgery provides transplantation of the kidney and liver.
The kidney transplant program has been nationally recognized for high transplant rate and organ acceptance. In addition, the transplant section performs an extensive range of general surgical procedures, vascular access for dialysis, and abdominal surgery for transplant patients.

Pediatric Surgery
The Pediatric Surgery, a division of the General Surgery, provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with congenital anomalies and acquired conditions of the abdomen, gastro-intestinal tract, genitourinary system. We offer complete pediatric surgical care for children from infancy to the teenage years. We look forward to taking care of your family.
