The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism consists of 5 areas which are Diabetes Mellitus, Lipid metabolism & Obesity, Neuro-endocrinology, Growth & Aging, and bone metabolism. 6 Korea’s best professors, 2 clinical lecturers, and 6 residents are conducting research and medical treatment in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of Kyung-Hee Medical Center. The department is visited by 20,000 patients annually with its one of the largest and finest facilities. As an affiliated facility of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, it features endocrinology research lab, diabetes complication test center, and carotid ultrasonography room to assist medical treatment through various endocrinology tests and diabetes complication tests. In particular, the endocrinology research lab is a largely-scaled center that progresses approximately 198,000 cases for 50 types of hormone every year. Lastly, the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of Kyung-Hee Medical Center was chosen as a hosting institute of ‘Type 2 Diabetes clinical research center’ by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2005. It is expected to play an important role of identifying the unique characteristics of diabetes in Koreans and researching appropriate treatment and control guidance for the next 10 years. This research, named as KNDP (Korean National Diabetes Program), is a monumental project that will be a turnaround of Diabetes studies in Korea as a large scale national research project jointly conducted by with more than 10 university hospitals and general hospitals in Korea.
